To start with, I would like to thank Kuya Danny (our flat owner) in giving us this delicious turon for miryenda. Unfortunately, I was not able to have a taste of it while it was still hot since my husband and I were also having our late-lunch. Conversely, my husband still managed to grab a bite right after our heavy meal (matakaw kasi ;D). He he he….
Turon is basically made of wrapped banana (saging na saba) with a sprinkle of sugar and sometimes stuffed with jackfruit (langka) strips. However, it is quite difficult and expensive to buy saging na saba here in UAE, so often times we made use of other similar kind of banana. Not as good as what we have in the Philippines but fair enough.
- 5 Pcs Saging na Saba (or Plantain bananas)
- 10 pcs Lumpia wrapper
- 1 cup langka strips (jack fruit strips)
- sugar
- oil
- Trim both ends of each banana and peel off skin, cut into half lengthwise. Set aside.
- In a large plate place one piece of lumpia wrapper, place on top 1 slice of banana.
- Sprinkle sugar and top with strips of langka.
- Roll lumpia wrapper halfway, fold both ends, now fully roll and wet the end of flap with water to seal. Set aside.
- Heat oil at medium high fire.
- Fry banana rolls in batches 3-4 minutes each side or until lumpia skins are crisp and golden brown.
- Remove banana rolls from wok and drain excess oil.
- Serve and enjoy!
