Restaurant Review : Jollibee @ Dubai Mall

This review was long overdue. Well, we only had a chance to visit Jollibee in Dubai mall recently, although they've been open there for  almost a year in couple of months now. We were lucky to be in queue for just 15 minutes since we arrived there a little early for lunch time. But after my turn to order, people started coming and the crew patiently assisted customers to be properly in line so other people in the food court will not be disturbed.

My husband and I were so excited that we wanted to try everything in the menu. I just told my husband that our priority was to taste the chicken, spaghetti, hotdog sandwich and the burger. So, I guess we've ordered almost everything. Here are our orders!

The aroma was quite 'The Pinas Jollibee'. Hmmmm, I'm already mouth watering while doing this post. Ok, I started with the spaghetti, it was 95% similar to the original. Then I took a bite of the chicken, I would say it was 90% similar to the original. The rice and burger steak was my husband's but I had a taste of it, I guess it's 98% similar as the original. I ate the jolly hotdog later in the afternoon of the same day and I would say it was 80% similar to the original. Overall, the taste was definitely satisfying. There were slight differences in the taste but I'm sure all our kababayans here in UAE were satisfied and happy.

The success of Jollibee here was really obvious that in less than a year they will be opening more branches in Dubai. Hopefully soon in Abu Dhabi also.

Restaurant Review : Ortego's Deli

Ortego's Deli is a Filipino restaurant which started operating mid of 2014, and I would say that it definitely made a huge buzz not just in Filipino community but with other nationalities as well. I made some online research and found out that it is operated by Straw Group which none of its bosses is Filipino. It is quite amusing that they made an excellent job in serving authentic Filipino dishes and homey Filipino ambiance.

I've been there for couple of times and it was extremely high-end experience with superb food, great choices in the menu, small yet lovely space and friendly and very attentive staff.

Chicken Tower is one of their talked about dishes. Well, no question about it, it is surely one of my personal favorite as well. Four cuts of grilled barbecue chicken served with unlimited rice for 3 persons, and not to forget their savory sauce that will surely tickle your taste buds and ask for more.

Chicken Binakol is definitely one of their original in the menu. It is similar to chicken tinola with a twist of coconut juice and meat on it which blended a slightly sweet taste to the dish.

I've tried plenty others from their menu like, sizzling sisig na bangus, seafood kilawin, beef sisig omelet, sizzling bulalo steak and their pansit bihon guisado.  All of these are truly appetizing, affordable, and I would love to try some other dishes on my next visit.

To sum it up, food are definitely great and were served fast. Staff were well-trained, friendly and and very helpful, though they could add some more staff to attend to increasingly demanding customers. Parking is a bit difficult but it is very common in this country, I guess. Lastly, it would be really nice if they could have a bigger space otherwise everything is just perfect as it is :). It was indeed an excellent dining experience.

Restaurant Review : Kuya Juan Restaurant (Al Ain Palace Hotel)

My husband and I have been raring to visit Kuya Juan Restaurant which is relatively new restaurant here in Abu Dhabi. We were supposed to go there last Eid but we were previously invited by my brother to spend the long holidays with them. So, we just decided to book our visit last August 22 to celebrate our 4th year wedding anniversary.

Kuya Juan Restaurant is affiliated with Al Ain Palace Hotel located in Abu Dhabi. They offer a casual ala carte dining venue and serve exemplary Pinoy favorite dishes. The place has Spanish-Filipiniana decor and a slight mix of contemporary designs that suited the ancestral theme of the place.

The first thing you will notice as you enter the door is that the place is bigger than you thought. The atmosphere is cozy and very conducive to family and group of friends. They cater breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The attendants were very efficient, friendly and well-trained which adds to the restaurant’s homey vibes.

The food is affordable and the portions are generous. The succulent freshness and appetizing flavor and aroma of each dish greatly define Filipino vibrant cuisine at its finest. They also serve pork dishes, which I would generalized as top choice for us Pinoys when it comes to main courses. They have bar which serves various kinds of wines and alcoholic drinks which adds to my husband's interest.

One thing we all consider in noting our favorite restaurant is that aside from the superb food, the ambiance is great factor as well. I personally love the acoustic serenade which performs nightly from 8:00 PM. It made our anniversary celebration very warm and memorable (well, aside from the surprise complimentary cake from the management :) ). The performance was outstanding and will surely bring back memories of the good old days.

Here are some photos of Kuya Juan Restaurant.

This is the corner where Sir Froilan performs his acoustic music.

I love this capiz light holder on each table :)

Here are the photos of what we ordered.

Sago't Gulaman for drinks.

A complimentary cake for our wedding anniversary.

Lovely acoustic performance by Sir Froilan. He performs nightly starting at 8pm.

Kuya Juan Restaurant serves regional cuisines, such as Kare Kare, Dinuguan, Crispy Pata, Lengua Estofado, home-made Brazo de Mercedes, puto, Pandesal to name a few. All the breakfast dishes such as Tapsilog, Bangsilog, Goto, etc… is available in Kuya Juan's Ala carte menu. They are also serving unlimited rice. Lechon de Leche will also be available (advance order is a must)

To sum it up, we will surely go back here, with or without occasion. Superb food, lovely ambiance and excellent service, it was indeed a great food adventure!
